What we need to do is find qualified people to run for positions in our house and senate. There are 400 house seats and 24 senate seats. If the tea party members take control of either in the up coming election, we could push our conservative agenda, regardless of who the governor is.
The first item that I believe needs addressing is the fact that we pay our legislatures in NH $100.00 a year. I know it is not suppose to be a full time job, but in actuality with the lack of their attention, has caused a lot of the problems in my opinion. We need members to have more hands on and watching where our money goes. I believe that if they spent more time watching the books we could save millions.
Another part of the problem is, most conservatives and especially those who are joining the tea party, are mostly small business owners or the working class. Under the current system in NH, you need to be independently wealthy, retired or have a spouse support you while you are working for the government. So this non paying position limits those who are holding office as most of the true working class cant afford to hold an office or run. I also found that a lot of those holding office get perks in many other ways. People have to earn money and eat, so if we are not paying them, someone else is. I believe our government is corrupt and soon will be as bad as others.
We need to change this, I want to propose we pay each the average teachers salary and benefit package their district pays their teachers. I am sure our friends in the democrat side would support this. And putting this into place would allow true average working class conservatives to run and take hold of these seats.
Next we should restructure the house. I am fine with 24 senate seats, but we don’t need 400 house seats I think 92 should suffice. Which would give 4 house seats to each senate district. This would dramatically reduce the amount of pays from above.
These are just 2 of my ideas that I believe merit thoughts and discussion.
